BMI is currently seeking a Research Analyst to join the Operational Risk Research team in Pretoria, South Africa. BMI is a Fitch Solutions company. Fitch Solutions is a part of the Hearst-owned Fitch Group, a global leader in financial information services.

 

The Operational Risk Research team produces daily and quarterly written and data-centric analysis of business environment risk developments and key trends across labour, logistics, defence and trade and investment policies for a global audience of public and private sector clients. Client presentations and bespoke research projects also form part of the regular workload.

We’ll Count on You To:

  • Take ownership of a suite of region-specific reports, datasets and 10-year forecasts.
  • Identify and analyse key trends and articulate the risks and opportunities facing investors/ market stakeholders across the sector value chain.
  • Examining macroeconomic and financial data, company strategies and key business environment developments.
  • Produce insightful and actionable research and contribute to ad hoc reports and special projects as you become a subject matter expert.
  • Interact with and support our global sales team and with clients to communicate our industry views and drive engagement with our data.
  • Support team leaders in the development of new research initiatives evolving with the industry. 

 

What You Need to Have:

  • Degree with a focus on Economics, Econometrics, Logistics, Finance, International Relations, Statistics, Data Sciences or a related field – (post-graduate/ advanced degree/qualification would be an advantage).
  • Demonstrable ability to solve problems using critical, rational and creative thinking.
  • Strong writing and numeracy skills are essential; Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills key. Python/R/VBA skills desirable.

 

What Would Make You Stand Out:

  • Existing knowledge of logistics, data analytics, trade and investment topics.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, while being able to convey key points effectively
  • Innovative mindset, ability to develop data/research tools and supporting the adoption of new analytical techniques and approaches.
  • Ability to convey, clearly and concisely, key points through verbal and graphic skills
  • Ability to work as part of a larger team and being willing to take on projects at short notice
  • Postgraduate degree / professional qualification
  • Previous experience in research/ analytical roles
