Fitch Group’s legal team is currently seeking a senior paralegal (maternity cover for up to 12 months) based out of our Canary Wharf, London office.
Fitch Group is looking for a highly motivated and energetic paralegal to join and support the Fitch legal team on a broad range of assignments encompassing regulatory, compliance, general commercial, HR and corporate secretarial support. This is an opportunity to work within a small legal department with high visibility to the team around the world. Fitch Group Functions Ltd is the principal UK group services subsidiary of Fitch Group, Inc. and provides support to Fitch’s primary business divisions: Fitch Ratings, Fitch Solutions and Fitch Learning.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- Perform eDiscovery reviews and prepare document productions responsive to requests for information from (i) regulators; (ii) other governmental or quasi-governmental authorities; (iii) data subjects; (iv) private litigants. Maintain case management databases and logs.
- Conduct research on various employment law issues and, under the supervision of the lawyer advising Fitch’s Human Resources department in EMEA, prioritize and respond to client requests for legal advice on matters relating to employment contracts and other employee relation issues.
- Assist in preparation for FCA and foreign regulatory inspections and inquiries & draft resolutions and distribute materials for, and assist in the preparation and coordination of, meetings of the board of directors and board committees.
- Manage general corporate governance and maintenance for domestic subsidiaries, including formation, dissolution, preparing documentation for filings with state, local and other government agencies and organizing and maintaining corporate records and files.
- Work with outside counsel and foreign offices on administrative matters relating to the company's foreign entities or branches in EMEA.
- Perform general compliance, legal and fact research.
- Communicate and coordinate with company managers and related departments, clients, vendors and/or outside counsel/agencies on select legal issues.
- Provide general periodic administrative support as needed for meeting organization and scheduling, general calendar control, Word, Excel and PowerPoint creation and editing, payment processing and filing.
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements and advise stakeholders on legal issues, risks, and recommend solutions to mitigate such risks in accordance with company policies and procedures.
You May be a Good Fit if:
- Bachelor's degree required. A law society (or other like grantor) approved paralegal certificate a plus.
- Minimum of three years' law firm or in-house experience with experience either litigation support and basic corporate work. DSAR handling or privacy legislation experience are desirable.
What Would Make You Stand Out:
- Experience in Financial Services sector would be advantageous.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive and personal information.
- Outstanding Microsoft Office and general computer skills. Familiarity with online research, litigation support and eDiscovery tools. Prior experience with eDiscovery Platforms and SharePoint a plus.
- Well-organized, strong attention to detail, superior work product and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
- Ability to prioritize and make the appropriate trade-offs as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with cross-functional teams, including finance, tax, human resources, compliance, administrative assistants and outside law firms.
- Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and to complete successfully a background investigation.
- May be required to take and demonstrate levels of proficiency on skills-based assessments appropriate to the position.
