US Public Finance - Credit Analyst; Director - Public Power - New York or Austin

USPF Public Power Team is currently seeking a Director based out of our New York or Austin office.


Fitch Ratings is seeking a self-motivated, inquisitive professional with capital market/fixed income experience or other credit relevant experience for the Public Power team within the US Public Finance group. The candidate must be able to work independently, with preference given for knowledge of the public power and electric cooperative sectors. The position can be located in New York, NY (Hearst Tower location) or Austin, TX.

We’ll Count on You To:

  • Produce thoughtful analysis and timely publication on portfolio of public power and electric cooperative ratings. Coverage will include presentation of rating recommendations to committee of analysts; participate in rating committee discussions and deliberations.
  • Gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, contracts and legal documents for the purpose of producing ratings, publishing credit reports, and contributing to special research reports.
  • Participate alongside senior analysts in meetings with utility industry management teams, investment bankers and financial advisors.
  • Identify relevant trends, assess their credit impact and highlighting these trends in updated industry and market focused reports/presentations.
  • Some travel required; hybrid work schedule requires staff to be in the office at least three days/week.

What You Need to Have:

  • Work experience of 8+ years in public finance/utility analysis; solid financial statement analysis skills.
  • Candidate will ideally possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Business or Accounting or other Relevant Sector (public policy, electrical engineering); additional years of work experience beyond the minimum may be substituted in lieu of a graduate degree.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently, seek answers/assistance as needed, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, transaction-oriented environment.
  • Ability to apply Fitch Criteria with a high-level independence and integrity.

FOR NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA ROLES ONLY: Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $115,000 and $175,000.   Actual salaries will be determined on an individualized basis and may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job-related factors.  Base pay is one part of Fitch’s total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, long-term incentives, and other benefits sponsored by Fitch.
